It’s National Tequila Day!
July 25, 2011
As we noted a couple of days ago (see Getting a head start…), July 24th is National Tequila Day. Now we’re not sure who the hell is in charge of such things, but we’re sure not going to argue!
To properly celebrate such an important day, Miss Bonnie and I headed to what I consider to be the Happiest Place in the Happiest Place on Earth, La Cava del Tequila in Epcot (now Bonnie will argue about the Happiest Place – something to do with caramel in Germany – but that’s another post for another day…).
To try a wide range of the establishment’s speciality margaritas, we decided to share the Margarita Sampler.
Five of the favorite flavors are presented in shot glasses. They don’t always offer this, so be sure to ask if it’s available when you visit.
The drink offerings always seem to be in flux at La Cava… fairly new on the menu are a selection of infused tequilas.
I asked our server David (who was great and very personable – he is @Pipo_rro on the Twitterverse if you’re interested) about them, and he said his favorite was the Tanteo Cocoa – the slightly sweet flavor being an unusual combination with the warmth of the tequila.
I took his advise, and was quite pleased with the choice – even Miss Bonnie took a tiny sip and wasn’t exactly displeased… the infused flight will have to be sampled soon!
Like the beverages, the food menu at La Cava seems to be constantly changing… we didn’t eat anything on this visit, but let’s quickly talk about the food there anyway…
The food is not intended to be a full menu, but more like a selection of appetizers to compliment the beverages (and of course, something to put on your stomach other than just tequila so you can at least make it out the door!). The original menu was quite good with a few interesting choices, but the current offerings are quite pedestrian.
As the food items obviously come from the kitchens of the nearby San Angel Inn, we can hope that these bland offerings are due to the recent overhaul and menu changes at San Angel, and once that settles down we can get more interesting edibles along with the wonderful drinks and service at La Cava del Tequila!
And since we mentioned Twitter earlier, yes La Cava is on the Twitterverse @cavadeltequila – give them a follow!
So, we hope you have celebrated (or are still are celebrating) National Tequila Day along with us! Salud!
Now back to the bar…
